The Crossing Yarmouth to Bar Hbr Maine

29-Aug-2010 18:26:16

0620 hrs, left Yarmouth, just dawn with the sun rising behind us, what a pretty sight.
No Wind  or sea what a better day could we get. Well we saw several whales,
lots of porpious, a three or four sun fish, we think that we hit one later on during the day, we heard a "thud",
but we did not see anything. The winds picked up late in the day, arrived in Bar Hbr entrance @ 1720, so we had a great day crossing. The gods were with us, we must be doing something right.
The Wind Guru was right on.Its hotter as the hinges of hell here, lots of water and tourist traffic.
Time for a cold beer, and R/R, until supper, which we made in the "slow cooker"
along the way, this is a "TRAWLERMAN" life. :)
2000 hrs, we got cleared by US Customs, very nice young guy, never chcked anything except our passports.
Now Hurricane Earl is heading our way, so have to find a safe haven for when its arrives, lets say we will not be in Bar Hbr!!!, probably Northeast Hbr, about 7 nm up the coast. We were there before, very well sheltered, space will be at a premium, tomorrow we will try and get a spot.
More later

New problem

A sailors work is never done. After fixing the head and the tank, the drain in the forward sink started to leak, but this was quickly solved, wait ( NO NOT 5200), but simply clear silicone around the flange, and it was done...Lane had a boo boo on his finger from the work.

Me and the water tank

Who ever said that boat problems are simple to solve, never had a boat!! The port side tank had a leak around the inspection cover, mainly around the threaed nut and bolts, so it was deceided to removed the existing cover and reinstall the plate....bad move.
From that point on, there had been a number of steps taken to resolve the leaking tank, at one point there was more epoxy around the flange, that most boats have in the entire hull :)..
Finally a plastic flange/cover was ordered, and installed...no luck, still leaking. OK what next, the magic 5200, that will solve everything. So it was that a whole tube was used, let it set  for two days, reloaded the tank.......leaks, what next. Ok drill new holes in the tank and set new self taping screws along with 5200 to secure the flange, did you know that you never have a drill bit that will penetrate the stainless steel tank, now we have to get a drill bit brought in by Tina. It was again time to take charge of the tank, with new drill bit in hand, new holes drilled, 5200 applied liberally to the flange, it was reinstalled. We waited two days for a "proper cure", and filled the tank with H2O, alas a minor drip, more 5200 EUREKA..no more leaks.
What will be next..............?????

me and my head

Well the aft head has been a ongoing problem since we arrived back from Westport R.I. The head worked but it had a leak. After removing it a dozen times replacing the Impeller I still had a small leak. Well this spring it would not work at all until i took a hammer to it. I ending up ordering parts which took three mouths to arrive. Lane and I began right away, reinstalled the head no water the g.d. impeller was the wrong shaft size. Two days later we received the right impeller. reinstall the head no water g.d.f. thing next morning head removed check everything try pumping from bucket no luck. I reinstall we can pour water in it to flush until we get a new one in the USA. well something happened over night and tried it this moring and I hear Lane yelling eureka it's working. The toilet gremlins are finally gone no more effin swearing.

Once upon a dream...

Feb/2010, there comes a dream in everyones life, that will stay with a person for a long time, hence this dream about travel and life in the Caribbean Islands.
Life there is beautiful and very relaxing, not like the harsh winters in Canada, so it was decided that we should take Esperanza south to a new home.
The plan to leave in Aug/2010 is well under way, after much time , money and effort to refit the boat for travel, now it is time!!!!!!!!!!!
Please forgive me if I ramble on as this is my first blog, in an effort to have fun, and keep everyone informed on our travels.
