Electrical problem solved

After disconnecting all batterys, and load testing them I found the bow thruster battery was bad and was draining the house batterys.
Off to Napa store for a new battery. I can now run the inverter all night without killing the battery.
Had a great day yesterday. Took the boat for water and then gave the boat a good run out to the lighthouse to many jelly fish  for a swim. O-well next time water a little cold anywhey 76deg guess I am getting spoiled.
new update my johnson outboard craped out yesterday  and I had to get a tow back to the mothership. Good thing I have a spare outboard.
Have a great New Year

Cold Beer saves Friends

Well Tony and his wife Lelah came to visit from Moncton yesterday, We had lunch and a couple of beers, It was great to see them on Boxing day. Where as Tony is a pilot and his wife is taking lesson they decided to go over to the airport and take a flight on a bi-plane that charters. Because there was another couple waiting and the wait was going to be an hour. Tony got the taste for another beer and returned to Dockside. While sitting enjoying our second round we heard a plane fly over very low. Well it crashed off Sombrero beach no more then a mile from were we are. No one was hurt all three were rescued.
Well if they had waited they would have been on that plane. The Crash can be seen on youtube.
Good thing Tony enjoyes a cold beer

Boat For Sale

Tried of this, one problem after another, Just call it scott luck. Saturday 2,27pm my generator decided it had enough and quit. Well into the {as I now call it} HOLE I must go again.
First check the simple things oil, water, change fuel filter still not working. Well three weeks ago we charged the water temperature switch and I have a spare oil pressure switch so I though that might be the problem.
Well as most of you no that when things are made in Japan they become very small it goes for my generator as well. The pressure switch cannot be removed without taking the new oil filter off. several hours new switch installed and you guessed it nothing notta XXXX Dam you no what was said.
Decide to start the main engine to charge the batterys and guess what the engine started for all of 5 seconds and quit. I tried it several more times and it would  not start. Sooooooooooooo
Phone call to super Kendall
Sunday morning the Dam fridge getting warm Batterys voltage down to 9.8 v something must have been left on.
Super Kendall arrives at 11am and we go to work. First problem decovered was a fuel line leak behind the main engine. Super kendall starts to work on the Generator and by 2pm we are running again. By-passed the switche's rewired the fuel pump along with other things that I don't understand.
So as of Today I am waiting to see if my batterys are xxxx or not. Will know by tomorrow, the generator does not seem to be putting out the total amperage will know better tomorrow.
SO AS I SAY BOAT FOR SALE
But not quit yet
So You want to be a live aboard

What a Party

Will last night Dockside hosted the annunal lited boat parade, Some of the pictures are dark but they really go all out. Great time had by all.

IT'S NOT FUNNY ANY MORE

Another day of sun, woke up to a low voltage alarm on the inverter, Yes another electrical problem.
Started the generator and let it charge for 2 hours but the amp charge did not come down. So into the hole I must go. {no sense calling it a engine room} Engine room implies that thinks work. Will my D4 battery was smoking, hissing, spitting so out it must go. I spend the next 2 hour disconnecting it and rewiring the two remaining battery's, and off to the auto parts store again for new terminals etc. I figure that the dam fridge that Carol purchased for the boat because she wanted a large stand-up fridge has cost me $4000.00 in battery's inverters, electrician's, wiring etc. That could have bough a lot of ice. O-well next problem its going overboard.
Needless to say my Landry did not get done.
Just another live aboard day

The never ending story

Well after 7 days of glueing. patching and cleaning the hard bottom dingy that I purchased lasted year for $100.00 . We arrived in Marathon and the bottom had let louse. It was full of water. So thank god I keeped the old one. Well with Scott's luck we inflated the old one and put it in the water will we made it to shore with Wayne pumping all the way. to many hole to count.
So Kendall comes to the rescue with a walker bay for $200.00 good deal until wayne and I got in it with two cases of beer, steaks etc. and the dam thig begain to sink.
Well we pulled into the dingy dock with beer and food floating behind us and checked the problem.
So I now have three dingys all leaking, no Inverter and some very salty steak's

life is fun as a liveaboard

In The water

Well the boat is in the water and looking great  engine and generator started and are running great. Oil and filter changes planed for this week. No pictures my camera is still in Halifax. Susan and Donald from Old Sam drove  to the west coast for a  two day visit. I took  them around a little but the weather was raining for most of there visit. Jim and I have started rebuilding my outboards today and are now waiting for parts. While waiting we will start rebuilding my hard bottom tender and patching my soft bottom for a spare. So I am still hopeful for a Nov 10 departure.

Rain Delays

Well painting has been delayed the past two days, but should be nice tomorrow so hope to have the boat ready for launch on Monday. Jim and I cleared his new lot today anew home for Esperanza whenever we are in the area.

Sanding and more sanding

Well you realize how big a 42ft trawler is when you start sanding. Two days of sanding and should be finished tomorrow. Will be ready for painting by Monday and waxing the next two days. hoping to be in the water by Friday. Although this storage yard lets you work on your own boat the rules really add to your time. Special filters for sanding drop clothes, and more it takes 30-45min to get ready to do anything. I have tried to find someone to hire but this is a wealthy area and hard to find someone. O-well get it done.

Florida Again

Arrived back to Florida Oct 12. Jim was at the airport to pick me up. The USA customs gave me a hard time and ea almost missed my plane in Halifax. Well checked the Boat today and it is in fare shape. The hull has to be done so sanding will start tomorrow. She needs a good wash but the teak wood is still in great condition I guess cetol if applied prosperity works well. Its good to see everyone again.
will keep the updates coming

On a air plain home May 21 were Carol was waiting to pick me up. Rain and 43f on Sunday the same Monday. Tuesday woke up with a cold, would take the sweating over the shaking any day.
After 2497 mile's Esperanza needs a rest. and  new bottom paint. Planning to be back in Oct. to continue our travels.

April was not kind

Well this was a bad month, what could go wrong did. It started out with the generator the water pump failed parts ordered and $287.00 later up and running again. Then the battery charger went. Contacted a local electrician who recommended that I replace the charger  with a new Inverter/charger combination 100amp charger with installation cost $2200.00. Then two days later my outboard gave up working Kendall, and Owen tried to replace the water pump but the shaft is seased in the engine and will not come out. So a search began for a replacement $250.00. If that was not enough the batteries failed had to order new ones a D8 and D4 thank god for Owen because I could not lift them. cost $350.00 and then the next morning the computer failed and had to be sent for repairs. another $100.00. Everything is working well now but I may have to ask everyone to send money for my airline ticket back home. Will be leaving Marathon on the 12th for south gulf cove will try to keep you undated. Despite the problems have not had a day of rain in two months and it remains in the mid 80's every day.Donnie arrives tomorrow for 10 day's looking forward to a good time. Wait until the southerns get to hear a real accent.

Learning Curves

Well until you spend time living on your boat you don't no what to expect. You think you are prepared and you have been planning it for years. But until you reach the southern climet and see the toll it takes on your boat you can't prepare for that. Sometimes I think we have it easy for the 6 weeks we have at home. In order to keep up, maintenance has to be done every day. Some day's only an hour or days like today 4 hours in a hot engine room. When company comes you do the tourist stuff and the maintenance takes a back sit, when the company leaves you have to get back at it right away. Thank god the Canadian dollar is strong and the cost down here is much less then home. example I had a diver put on a new shaft anode he clean the shaft and rudder for 10.00. Mooring ball every thing included $ 250.00 per month. Even with the maintenance problems I wouldn't give it up, Man its fun, fun, fun.  Well in for a swim to cool off and miller or bud time will follow.

Can't get any better

SUNNY SUNDAY

Hi All,
It has been a busy few days.  On Friday Jimmy (Scott's cousin), Joy, Blair and Marcia arrived in the afternoon (from Port Charlotte area).  They came out to the boat and we all dinghyed over to the Dockside for supper.  A lovely evening.  On Saturday we all went out to go fishing and snorkelling (along with Kendall, Dianne, Paige and Chris) off the reefs by the lighthouse.  Fishing didn't go too good - Scott was the only one who caught a fish!! But the snorkelling and swimming was fun - although it was very choppy (boat did alot of rolling).  Poor Blair and Joy did not fare so well.  But they were fine once we got back.  We all went to Castaways for supper.   Today the six of us took the bus to Key West to do some tourist  stuff.  We took the trolley tour which was fun. We had lunch at Bobalou's (fabulous) and then Scott and Jimmy hung out in Hogbreath's while Marcia and I shopped (I didn't go overboard!!).    Just got back here at 7:30 so it has been a long day.  But a great one nevertheless.    Tomorrow is my last day (sigh) so I will soak it up from dawn to dusk.  Hope all is well at home. See you soon.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY

Hello all!  Another stellar day in Florida.  Sunny and in the 80's.  Scott and I and our friend Dianne dinghy'd over  to Sombrero beach for a couple of hours this afternoon.  .  Had a lovely frolic in the water.  Didn't miss home at all.  Scott had an electrician over today to check out our electrical system.  Seems we need a new battery charger/inverter.   Yuck!  Always something.  Guess we also need to think about a DC fridge.  Anybody looking for an apartment size refrigerator????? Works great on shore power!!  However the tropics takes its toll.  Oh well. (Wayne, you were right - once again I owe you another loonie!!.  I must be up to a toonie now.)  But we will do what we must to make it right.  By this time next year we should have all kinks worked out but maybe not paid for.  Nobody said boating was cheap!!  However it is still a great life!!
PS  - Hope Chico is well and missing me a little!!  Be in touch soon.  love Scott (brown as a nut) and Carol (getting there).
PSS - no pictures available of Carol in a bathing suit!!  Luckily Scott forgot the camera!!

TUESDAY APRIL 5TH

Hello everyone.   A beautiful hot sunny day in Florida -- is there any other kind of day in Florida?  About 85 degrees.  Scott and I swam off the boat for a bit.  Got to see some dolphins frolicking.  A nor-easter blew in around mid afternoon. The winds came up like crazy and a bit of rain but it passed very quickly.  A beautiful sunset this evening so tomorrow promises to be a lovely day.  We had Kendall and Dianne over for cocktails and another couple dropped by for a drink.  Pleasant evening.   Tina - I told Scott not to throw away that stick -- you know what I mean - wink wink.   We plan on going to the reef on Thursday and are looking forward to Joy and Jimmy arriving on Friday.  Tomorrow will be a few groceries and a load of laundry.  Vacation or not clothes just keep getting dirty!!  Scott enjoyed a barbeque at the marina on Saturday and the Barnacles hosted the bbq with Country Kendall playing a set.  Scott had a few people back for cocktails later.  He is such a social butterfly!!   Large crowd.  Take care and will keep in touch.

CAROL'S BACK!!!

Hi all,  I made it!  My flight to Toronto was uneventful.  But only had one hour to catch my flight to Miami.  Still in line at Customs behind about 100 people with 5 minutes to my flight.  Let me tell you I had a sweat goin' on!!  But , they held the flight and I made it to Miami only one hour late.   Scott was there waiting and it was soooo good to see him.  The drive back to Marathon was 3 hours but I loved it.   It was good to see Esperanza again. We had a great day and look forward to an even greater night (wink wink).  I  am so glad to be here and know we will enjoy a w0nderful week together.  Give my best to Chico (I miss my buddy so much),  Will stay in touch.  Looking forward to spending time with Jimmy and Joy this coming weekend.  love Carol and Scott

Cold not in Florida

Well yes I got a cold, in Florida I ran away from the cold and damp weather to get away from such conditions but here I am filling my garage can with Kleenex and paper towel. Rick came by with Theraflu last night so I did manage to get some sleep.
Well Tina would be happy to no the Dolphins are back after what only I could disscribe as a very successful mating season. They must be happy because they are putting on quite the show.. One came right along side my dingy this morning and I touched him. He must have known I was sick because he stayed with me for about 5 min.
Hopefully I will be getting around better tomorrow and get ashore and start getting the boat cleaned up laundry and all the rest.
Well thats all from sick boy.

I was just given a warning for the local police for riding my scooter just could not out run him at 10mph o-well at least it was not a ticket. Will be harder to get my supply's now but I will manage.

The Fishing Trip

Hello everyone, we went out Sunday and fished about 5 miles out near the reef, and its was a great day except it was a little windy, so we had the "rock and roll" but everyone faired well. So after a day of fishing came the social and the BBQ, with everyone in attendance, people brought sides, etc.
Later in the night were experiments in different drinks!!! Everyone had a great time and the evening ended early, but no hangovers.
Here are a few pics....enjoy.
The people: Don and Susan(Old Sam-Can), Kendell and Dianne(Major Change-US), Rick and Lynda(Make it so-US)-star trek fan, Jack and Gerta(US),Rob and Christine(wanderlust-US) and of course the Esperanza crew.

Well we arrive here in Boot Key Hbr. two days ago, all is well. We are at a mooring ball for the next week, and maybe even longer. The price is right, with all the facilities you could ever want, all stores, and rest. are within walking distance. This  is truely a boating community, with 269 mooring balls, with all transients and live aboard.
Some come from north and stay here. There also marina slips but these are $2.25 per ft...ouch!!!
I will try and upload a few photos. bye bye for now. Notice Scott's new ride and Lane's is to left.  lol

Miami Yacht Club and Key Largo

Several days ago we arrived in Miami spent three night at the Yacht Club. We met several people from NS including retired RCMP member(Ralph Weaton) that Lane knew quite well. Also Jim Duncan, a former Yarmouth boy, his dad fished the NS waters. He is 79 and looked liked a 60 year old.

Today we travel to Key Largo, and anchored in "tarpon Basin", is was 52 stuatue miles. Along the way we were passed by a very large number of cigarette boats, man were they loud and going the speed of sound. We saw them later just in Key Largo, and they were having a photo shoot with the slim girl models parading their bodies. later they came by us again, helicopter flying over them and us. I think that we were in some of the shots?? But we could not keep up with them, and they were long gone!!!

Had a nice BBQ, and relaxed on the boat, the stars are out and its flat calm. Tomorrow we are going to check out the sites at Key Largo....more later.

Time for one last cocktail and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

FORT LAUDERDALE

Good morning - finally got internet access.  We spent another lovely day motoring to our next stop which was Lake Worth - where we anchored for the night.  What a trip through the ICW - very slow going as lots of "slow zones" and "idle only" zones due to manatees and boats against private dockages among hundreds of million plus $ homes.  Unbelievable - you just can't imagine or see it on TV to really take in the richness down here.  Yesterday we left Lake Worth on to Fort Lauderdale - with a cruising day much like the last one.  We are tied right in downtown Fort Lauderdale at the municipal wharf next ot the 3rd Avenue Bridge, amongst the skyscrapers.   Today promises to be another fine day - yay.  We are heading to Watson Park near Miami Yacht Club today to relax for two days until I (Carol) fly out on Thursday. Sigh.   Take care all and see you soon.

INDIANTOWN MARINA

What another great day of motoring in Florida.  Continued up the Caloosahatchee River to the Caloosahatchee Canal - through 3 locks.  You would not believe the alligators!!  We saw dozens of them.  No swimming on this trip!!  The weather was perfect - sunny and in the 70's with a slight breeze.   We settled in to the marina around 6:00 pm - I must say that Scott manoeuvered us in to a tight spot, aft in first.  Very impressive.  We will be heading for Stuart tomorrow.  The crossing on Lake Okechobee was uneventful.  The locals advised there was a slight chop - well, the slight chop was about 2 inches.  I guess a heavy chop would be 4 inches!!  So no complaints at all.  It is another clear night with a full moon.  Take care all.  Hope Chico is doing well and not missing us too much.  SCL&T (Esperanza Crew).

PORT LA BELLE MARINA

Hi all,

Arrived at our destination for the night.  Port La Belle Marina - 50 cents a foot!!!!  We went to the inn just up the street for happy hour and now back to tuck in for the night.  It was a great motoring day.  Even got to see an alligator when we got to the marina.   It was a beautiful day again and promises the same for the rest of the weekend.  We will be off tomorrow nice and early and will check in then.  The river we motored up on the ICW was the Caloosahatchy (not sure of spelling) River.  Take care all.  SCLT.  Lane & Tina are both red as beets - tsk tsk.

TARPON POINT MARINA AND RESORT

We arrived at our first stop of our journey to Miami - Tarpon Point.  Another beautiful day of motoring with sunshine and calm waters. We again enjoyed several dolphin shows.  They would come up to the side of the boat and follow us for a while, jumping in and out of the water.  It is so fun to watch.   We are heading out this morning again after breakfast to Moor Haven.  It calls for another beautiful day.  But -- we won't be swimming - we heard the news about thousands of sharks in Boca Raton off the coast - so we will be staying well away from the rails - ha ha.  Hope you all have a great day. - Scott, Carol, Lane & Tina.

THE NEXT LEG OF THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Good morning.  We have been having problems boasting on the blog until today.  Tuesday \Lane and Tina arrived.  We picked them up at the hotel and back to the boat, after stopping to buy groceries and have lunch at Ali-gators.   \Scott, Lane and I tried the alligator - a little chewy and not much taste really - but at least we tried. We enjoyed a wonderful evening with Jimmy and Joy and took a pontoon boat ride over to new friends - Ray and Bernie from Michigan \(they are Jimmy's son's in-laws who are renting a beautiful home for a couple of weeks.  We all went to the Elks club for supper yesterday - taco night - yum! Then back to Jimmy's place where all but me enjoyed a stay in the hot tub.  We are leaving today around noon and on to Fort Myers by supper.  Then off to Stuart and Lake Ockechobe to cross over Florida towards Miami by the end of the weekend.  The weather has been sunny and warmer every day (up to 79 yesterday) - so let's hope that keeps up.  Hope you are all well.  Kisses to my Chico - hope he is being a good boy.  love Carol and Scott \(and Lane and Tina).

MONDAY -VALENTINE'S DAY

Hello friends, It was a lovely Valentine's DAy.  Scott and Chris  & Merle and I went shopping (heaven!) for two hours.  Merle and Scott went to West Marine where Merle picked up a Garmin handheld 76 CX plotter and a book on intercoastal waterway.  Chris and I shopped at Beals's - awesome.  Merle looked at a beautiful C and C Constellation 48 footer.  We then did Valentine's Lunch  at Red Lobster.  Kinda  disappointed -compared to the TV ads.  But Merle and Chris treated - very nice.  Forgot to mention that yesterday we had an awesome show by the dolphins - they followed the boat for 40 minutes --diving and following.  It was sooooo awesome.
We had a lovely Valentine evening with Jim and Joy -and now are relaxing with a cocktail before retiring.  Should have some awesome pictures to show you when Chris emails me her pictures tomorrow.  Take care all. Give kisses and hugs to Chico.  love Scott and Carol

AWESOME DAY FOR A CRUISE

Hi all,
What a great day we had.  We had a boatful of friends and went to a marina to water up, fuel up and most importantly -- empty the head tanks!  We had ourselves, my best friend Chris and her husband Merle, along with Scott's cousin Jimmy, his girlfriend Joy, and their friends Blair & Marcia and Tom and Karen.  It was sunny and a bit cool - but beautiful none the less.  We ate at the Marina at Harpoon Harry's - very good.  Scott skippered with no problem in and out of the lock, although we left at low tide and did go aground a couple of times - all good - now the keel is clean.  Chris and Merle are staying the night so we are just relaxing and enjoying cocktail hour while the sun sets.  Time to go relax with my drink.  Take care.

TRIP TO HEAVEN WAS HELL

Good morning everyone!  I am finally here with my honey but it was not easy.  Who knew what hell to pay for the pleasure of Scott's company??  First my flight was cancelled on Thursday - but had to spend 8 hours at the airport in order to get something arranged to get out on another flight the next day.  Note to self:  NEVER USE US AIRWAYS when travelling by air!!  Then had to get up at 4:00 a.m. on Friday  to be at the airport for 5:30 a.m..  IThank you Doug!)  The flight was delayed again , but finally off the ground two hours later.  However, for this flight I had to make two connections - one in Phillie and one in Charlotte, NC before getting to my final destination.  Due to the late departure it did not look good to catch my connection in Phillie.  But made it by a hair - the Phillie airport looked really nice with lots of shopping - but alas, it was not to be.  I had to shuttle to another terminal and run the length of it to make my connection - but I did it.  It was not pretty, but there you go.  Made my last connection without too much stress.  Arrived in Fort Myers at 4:30 pm (13 hours - including the time change - from when I awoke in the morning.  I could have driven to Florida in two days for heaven sakes!  Any way, had a funny feeling when I got to FM.  And my feelings were correct.  Apparently my luggage decided it had had enough and stayed in Phillie!!!  Can you believe it?  So there you have it.  But my stray luggage did catch up with me late last night - delivered to Scott's cousin's.  Bittersweet - I was kind of looking forward to having to go shopping and replace all my stuff!!  Woke up this morning to a beautiful sunny day.  So it was worth it in the end.  Oh yeah - it was great to see Scott too.  We shall enjoy the day and make up for lost time (wink wink).  Will keep you posted on our adventures. Cheers, Carol

ALLIGATORS

Well I was warned about alligators in the channels around south golf cove but had not seen any until today. While doing so boat work I stopped for a beer and sat back with a smoke and off the bow was a gator. It gives you a good reason for not falling off the boat.
Well a rain day turned out nice and sunny  80+
the gator is in front of the big tree reflecting on the water.
